Why Learn About Genetics?
"Medical practitioners have a duty to
maintain a level of knowledge in human genetics appropriate to their area of
practice." Aust. Medical Association Position Statement 2002
More people are recognizing the need to improve their
understanding of genetic health management. In most countries there are
insufficient numbers of trained genetic counsellors to meet the demands. The
challenges for medical practitioners, nurses and allied health staff will be to
attend to patients' questions and concerns in an accurate and timely manner.
